Last week, I went to Grand Lux with my family to something besides homemade food. (I'm not saying that home cooked food is bad, but it is nice to mix up the dinner courses each week.) So, there is only one location in Chicago which is near the Magnificent Mile which is good because after a long day of shopping and exploring downtown, one can relax and enjoy yummy food. However, last week we only went for a dinner minus the shopping part. When you first walked into Grand Lux it is feels like a mansion since the decor are gold and looks really luxurious and we were greeted by a hostess asking number of people and name. Then, we were escalated to the second floor of the dining hall where we were guided into a rounded table which half is booth style and the other just regular seating. The lights in the dining room was dim which created a romantic type of feel like in the movies but, it was a little too dark that I can't really see what is around me. A waiter greeted us enthusiastically and listed tonight's specials. We were given bread and butter and he asked if we needed anything to drink. The hospitality is excellent and when we were ready to order, the waiter was set to take our orders.
We ordered a total of four dishes sharing between the three of us. The price of the food is not too bad because the portion of one dish is equivalent to ten nights worth of dinner or maybe less. Anyhow it was a good deal for even one person to finish one plate of food. We ordered the Polynesian Salad which is a modern twist of a normal salad. The salad had strips of chicken, red and yellow bell peppers, shredded lettuce, cubed mango, chopped walnuts and a drizzle of tangy and tart salad dressing. How do you eat the salad without a fork, one of the fun part about this salad is that you can scoop up the salad with the tortilla chips under the salad. The next dish was the Rustic Lasagna which was so delicious and filling. When you hear the word "rustic" you would think of the childhood memories and homemade which is what the dish brings to the table. The lasagna is layered with beef, mushrooms, and tons of cheeses which is my favorite part. The sauce is drizzled on top which compliments the dish really well and surprisingly filling that my stomach wanted to bail out on me. The third dish was the special that day which was Pan Seared Mahi Mahi Tuna which was scrumptious and tasty. The fish is cook to the perfection not too raw or too well done which made the day for me. The fish was conjoined with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and raw broccoli which was also, a huge a portion for my family to share. Last, course of the night dessert: what is it ice cream? or is it something sweet? We ordered a Homemade Apple Pie which have to be ordered thirty minutes prior to plating which means that it is fresh out of the oven. We were already full with all of the food we wanted to go, but we decided to stay for the dessert. The waiter brought it out and it was circular with even weaving of the dough on the pie crust and a scoop of butter pecan ice cream melting against the heat. Mmmm....
